I wish I had known When I was a boy The path that my life would take If I had studied And taken the time Prepared myself for the future But I never knew It would be so hard To keep my head above water The property ladder is too hard to climb The jobs market so demanding If only I'd known If only I'd tried If only I had made more effort If I'd taken the time If I’d listened to my elders If I’d taken things seriously But I had no idea what lay ahead And how bumpy a trip life would be Now I’ve reached middle age The seas are less choppy I’ve finally steadied my ride Now the goals are in target The finish lines close As I head for the three score and ten
