The children are wearing hand me downs Because the parents are on the dole Mum used to work in the typing pool And dad used to mine for coal But the typewriter became obsolete And the Tories shut down the mines And it’s sad to see that this is becoming A shocking sign of the times They can’t afford a holiday Or the latest technology Now the balif are on the doorstep Because the mortgage hasn’t been paid They are eating their lunch at the food bank And they don’t know where to turn It’s been so long since they had a good sleep And it’s tearing the family apart They are in a dark hole and it’s swallowing them Not sure how much more they can take Mum gets a job as a cleaner but it’s only 12 hours a week And dad goes to work in a DIY store 20 hours on minimum wage But at least it’s a step on the ladder And a long climb lies ahead But they still have fight in them And eventually blue will turn red...
