We will always have that night

In that club on the edge of town

Dancing beneath that glitter ball

That reflected in your eyes

It felt like it was meant to be

As I held you close to me

Cheek to cheek swaying to that song by Adele

You were wearing that white dress

That showed off your curves and your ebony skin

Your eyes looked especially bright that night

I must have been the envy of every man on that dance floor

Because beauty is a word

That was surly created to describe you

I wanted to tell you how much I loved you

But I know that would have been inappropriate

Because your heart is taken

And I know we can never be anything more than friends

And most of the time I’m ok with that

I’ve come to accept it

But somehow the alcohol

And the closeness of your body to mine

Makes all my will power leave me

And I could so easily loose myself in your eyes

And if I fall I may not have the strength to get up again

And that would ruin this beautiful friendship

And I don’t think I could live with that

So I’m taking a step back whilst I still can

And consoling myself with the fact

That we will always have that night.
