The Anvil

The demons in your mind crawl like slugs

They wait with bated breath

Looking for signs of your weaker moments

Flooring you with a single swipe

Of their poisonous tongues

Earthbound, yet silently willing

You crawl back into the Earth’s core

Where it’s desolate beyond belief

You taste the cud

Feel the crash of the anvil

We are weak, so very weak

In the end we will have nothing

Nobody leaves here with prosperity

And the scars of our days

Will be cast in our flesh like venom

Nobody can tell the truth these days

It was never meant to last 2000 years

This Earth, this glowing orb of sinew

Cast aside your inhibitions and you may survive

Those who seek cover and shade their eyes

They are the ones I pity

In a life so banal how can you not dream?

You have two choices

Stay in your sad existence and decay

Or play the field, set out goals

Reach for the stars

The world is your oyster

Live long and prosper
