Lines in the sand

There is a line in the sand

That should never have been crossed

Its dark on the other side

There are no rules

The law is never upheld

And crime is the main pastime

For all but a brave few

Who still fight the good fight

Those that refuse to accept a broken society

Those that still believe in justice

And the rights of their fellow men.

The sun never shines

People live in the shadows

And scavenge to stay alive

Its bleak on the dark side

The fires burn on all of the avenues

People hunt like pack animals

Blood spills and screams blister the air

No one thrives

Hunger tears at the soul

But the breakfast bowls remain bare

People pray

But none of the Gods are listening

They gave up a long time ago

They could only watch and despair

As the world fell apart

And the people continued to fight

And draw lines in the sand

Gradually claiming their own peace of Earth

That should have belonged to everyone
