After the fire

She blows hot and cold

And I never know where I stand

One minute I’m king of her castle

The next thing we are at war fighting tooth and claw

I never know which side I’m on

Am I her lover or her rival?

Will we be making love tonight?

Or will she be showing me the door?

The thing is, she always makes out that I’m to blame

But how can it be my fault every time?

It takes two to start a fight

And I wasn’t the one who started the fire

All I was trying to do was light the flame

But then the sparks started to fly

And once the smoke cleared

My bags were packed

And she was telling me to go.

The next thing I knew

I was on the red eye

Heading for god knows where

Not daring to glance over my shoulder

At the life I was leaving behind

Turning on my tunnel vision

And trying to look ahead

And wondering

When I did reach my destination

Would there be blue skies to great me?

Or would I be walking back into the fire?
