The girl in the coffee shop

She serves me coffee with a smile

I think I’ll hang out for a while

Just watching the people rush too and fro

Looking at pictures on the walls by Van Gough

Getting engrossed by my latest read

As I eat cake made from poppy seed

A day of work with time to kill

Its nice to just relax and chill

Maybe I’ll write some poetry

About this broken society

Once again I catch her smile

I truly wish I could beguile

But I don’t think she’s noticed me

She serves someone a pot of tea

I’d love to engage her in conversation

But I get filled with agitation

So I’ll keep trying to catch her eye

And keep on watching time tick by.
